Hoot Hoot!

Sophie turns the Big 3 Tomorrow!  She just keeps getting bigger and older and is more like a little lady than our little girl these days- why can't they just stay little?!  All year she has been reminding us that for her birthday she wanted a "hoo" party (owl) and this past Saturday the big day FINALLY came!  We threw the shin-dig at our house and the little diva approached Daddy and Mami and told us that "everything is perfect and you are soo good!" so we can assume it was a success.  Before we get to the pictures here is a little questionnaire I did with her and Miss Sophie's answers:

Favorite color: Pink and Purple

Favorite toy: Tiana the frog

Favorite tv show: mickey mouse clubhouse and little einsteins

Favorite thing for lunch: hot dogs

Favorite outfit: pajamas (wans't expecting this lol)

Favorite animal: sheep (this was another curveball cause both cory and i assumed it was dogs and cats)

Favorite book: anything ballet- she just started taking ballet classes in November :)

Who is your best friend: Gracie

What is your favorite cereal: Blue Cereal, this is what she calls Rice Krispies because of the color bag it comes in.

Favorite thing to do outside: Help daddy 

Favorite drink: apple juice and chocolate milk

Favorite holiday: Easter

What do you like to take to bed with you at night: Tiana the Frog

What is your favorite thing to eat for breakfast: Normal Pancakes, i.e plain pancakes

What do you want for dinner on your birthday: Spaghetti and Meatballs

Now to the Pictures:

the birthday sign- had this made when she turned 1 and it'll prb get used every year til she leaves the nest!

 Cory and I had a VERY late night decorating the cake, the day before the party Jens was under the weather and every time i tried to get started on the cake he'd decide he'd want to be held or would get sick and mess himself so it'd be a trip to the bathtub and outfit change for both of us.  Then because he wasn't feeling the greatest i was breaking up fights all day long (at least that's what it felt like), so the cake was set aside until after they were in bed. Anyone that has made a cake knows that it takes A LOT of time and this cake from start to finish took 6 hours but it was all worth the lack of sleep to see how excited Sophie was when she saw her cake the next morning.

 The Cake:  the base was covered in homemade buttercream frosting and then the owl and the decorations where made using marshmallow fondant.  For anyone wondering- i used wilton's 3d bear pan and then transformed it into this little owl. :)

 The Food Table:

 Was inspired by a photo I found while on pinterest (best site ever!) for the lanterns and poms poms hanging on our light fixture. :)

 The Food: made little bird nest cookies- these were coconut macaroons topped with a white chocolate lindor truffle

 Owl shaped sandwiches- since i was little my mom would always have our local grocery store dye the bread according to the colors of our party so of course i had to continue the tradition with sophie and she requested purple this year. :)

 Cake pops made by Cory and Sophie- the log that they're displayed on is what is left of our peach tree :( that was destroyed a few weeks ago by a freak windstorm (more on that another time).

 Dance Party- the kids jammed out a bit while we were waiting for all the guests to arrive and for the pizzas to finish baking.

 Games: we played "Mr. Owl what time is it?" which is like red light green light and tag combined.  The kids stood at the far end of the room and Cory, who was Mr. Owl stood at the other end with his back facing the kids. the kids would then ask "Mr. Owl what time is it?"  Mr owl would then answer with a number between 1 and 11 and the kids would then be able to take that many steps, their objective is to try and make it to mr. owl and catch him.  But if Mr. Owl answered MIDNIGHT! he'd turn around and try to catch (tag out) as many as the kids he could while the kids would try to run back to the starting line to be safe.  The kids had a blast with this and i think we'll be playing this more often just as a fam. :)

 we then played mouse, mouse, owl (duck, duck, goose) followed with hunt for the owl eggs- mama owl (me) lost her eggs and the kids had to go find 1 egg each- we hid easter eggs in our playroom- and bring it back to mama owl in order to get a prize.

 The following pictures are of Mr. Jens and what he liked most about the party- the FOOD!  I started laughing after i saw all these pictures it just shows what our little guy loves to do.  I have to thank tricia for grabbing my camera off the counter and taking all of my pictures because if it wasn't for her i wouldn't have remembered to take a single one cause it was just crazy.

 While opening presents nibbling a bit on his cake pop and carrying around his stash of goodies from the pinata- he carried that bag ALL day and had to bring it to his room that night!  Don't worry we didn't let him keep it in bed, we placed it on his nightstand but he didn't want that thing out of his sight!

 Love this picture!  It took sophie quite a few attempts to blow out the candles, 3 is tough people!

 I have to admire Sophie because instead of fighting with all the others in the middle she went after all the candy that landed further away, very smart!

 "G" decided she wanted to "Be the Owl"- oh and if you look in the background you can see the outline of the cute moss letter "S" i made to hang on our door, forgot to take a picture of it but you can all imagine what it looks like. :)
